5 Tips On Handling Fear Of Success
According to the famous publicity expert Paul Hartuanian, there are only two fears anyone is born with and they are gone before we even know.
The rest are acquired fears.
The two fears all babies are born with are:
1. Fear of Falling
2. Fear of loud noise.
The simple way to get rid of all the ‘acquired fears’ is to stop them.
Yes, it sounds way too simple. Here’s how.
Let’s suppose I give you a million dollars for you to cross a bridge.
Will you do that? Of course, you will.
Let me add one condition. You have to cross the bridge by walking.
Will you do that? No problem.
Now let me add some more. You have to cross the bridge which is a few miles in length.
Will you be able to do that. No problem, I can hear you saying.
Here comes the salvo.
Will you be able to cross the bridge naked and while hundreds of people are on the sidewalk cheering you, laughing at you and some even booing at you?
Many will still cross the bridge for the million dollars. Why?
The reward is bigger than the efforts put forth to get it.
Now let’s look at the tips which will help you handle fear of success.
1. Start Small: The first tip in handling your fear of success is to start small. If you think about a huge project and how much money, fame you are going to get when you finish it, you may be overwhelmed.
Instead divide the project into small parts and do it one by one. Whenever you complete a milestone, stop and congratulate yourself.
When you do that you will be able believe that you deserve success and you will go after it the whole hog.
2. Fill yourself with positive pep talks. These are small talks you talk to yourself. Make sure that it is filled with positive statements. It will support you when the going gets tough.
3. Be ready to get out of your comfort zone. To become successful, you have to push thru your comfort zones on a regular basis.
If you remain in your comfort zone, you may not be able to make any remarkable progress. When you are ready and willing to push your comfort zone, life will open up for you. Because not many people are willing to go the extra mile, you will be successful.
4. Take responsibility. Being responsible for everything that takes place in your life makes you an entirely different person. Because 98% of the people in the world refuse to take responsibly. They are always looking for someone to blame.
Responsible people make things happen while others watch things happen.
5. Set Higher Standards. As you are tackling fear of success, you have to set even higher standards for you.
Why? Because more will be expected of you. You don’t have to worry about it, because you have the mental stamina to go the extra mile.
